Please Join the U.S. Embassy and the Red Cross of the City of Skopje for a COMMUNITY BLOOD AND FOOD DRIVE!
On Tuesday September 18, the U.S. Embassy will mark the U.S. National Day of Service and Remembrance by hosting a blood and food donation event in collaboration with the Red Cross of the City of Skopje and the Institute of Transfusion Medicine for the tenth year in a row.
The National Day of Service and Remembrance began in 2002 as a forward-looking way, through charitable service, to honor the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who stepped forward in response to the attacks. In 2009, the U.S. Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law.
Blood donors are welcome at the U.S. Embassy from 09:00 to 16:00.
This event will help the Red Cross replenish blood supplies and provide needy families with food and other necessities for the winter months ahead.
The process of donating blood should take less than 20 minutes from start to finish, including registration, a brief medical check/questionnaire from the Red Cross medical staff, and the blood donation. Afterwards, enjoy a snack and a drink from our juice bar.
Donors must be between 18 and 65 years of age, and must have resided in Macedonia for at least six months. Donors cannot have donated blood in the last four months for women, or three months for men.
We will also be collecting non-perishable food items (see list below) and financial donations. Please consider donating a food item, especially if you cannot donate blood.
